You can add nested questions to your Data Capture sheets. This lets you link follow-up or probing questions to a broader parent question, with the follow-up retaining the full context of the parent. That means clearer responses and more contextually rich insights in your Data Capture.
How it works:
- In the Create or Edit Sheet view, you can add sub-questions under any parent question.
- Up to 2 layers of sub-questions are supported - enough to handle even complex discussion guide structures.
- The published Data Capture sheet displays visual numbering (e.g. Q1, Q1.a, Q1.a.i) to show how questions relate to each other.
- When answers are generated, the context of the parent question is automatically carried over to its child questions, ensuring that follow-up questions remain grounded in the topic being discussed.
Why this matters
Child questions (including follow-ups and probes) often rely on their parent question for clarity and meaning. Without that context, answers can become vague or misleading, for example:
Parent question: “To what extent do you expect referring centers to establish relationships with your treatment center?” Child question: “At what seniority level might this occur?”
→ Without knowing that “this” refers to the establishment of relationships, the follow-up lacks clarity and grounding, which our new nested question release addresses.
Child questions carry the parent context automatically, improving the quality and completeness of insights being generated.
